As a result of our allocation to Chester Aid to the Homeless (CATH) where we developed “care bags” for the rough sleepers of the Chester area, we were contacted by CHANCE Changing Lives – an organisation which provides a similar service in the Crewe area.
We were surprised to discover that there are an equivalent number of such rough sleepers in Crewe with at least 18 being “street homeless” and the remainder being “sofa surfers”.
As a result of the time of year (and after discussions with the trustees of CHANCE) we decided to provide 40 sets of
- sleeping bags;
- Thermos Mugs;
- Thermal hat;
- Thermal gloves;
- Thermal socks (with each person being given at least 5 pairs of socks).
We visited CHANCE at their Saturday hot meal provision which is hosted in collaboration with St Stephens Church, Crewe every Saturday from 4pm-8pm. At these sessions the CHANCE volunteers are also able to provide other food, clothing, toiletries, tents, sleeping bags and essentials for life. The charity liaises with accommodation providers and offer out reach support to help people regain self esteem and get them back on their feet and with the ultimate aim of obtaining settled accommodation for those in need.
Everyone deserves a CHANCE!
