DOG LANE KELSALL – PITCH RENOVATION
Tarvin Athletic is a community club aiming to provide football to young people within the local surrounding villages. The club’s members range in age from 4 years old through to the Under 18 team. The club have recently secured a 10 year lease on a piece of derelict ground which (several years ago) used to be home to Kelsall FC.
The site has been abandoned for some time and the club were aiming to return the site back to a fully functioning sports ground. The club have 26 football teams (around 260 local children participating) and have not had their own pitch for a while, meaning that they are competing with other local clubs to secure sports venues/pitches to train on (and because of this it has been very difficult to expand and increase the membership).
The club have now managed to secure the site for a long term (10 year) lease, and have set about renovating the area with the aims of:
1) Clearance of rubbish from the derelict site
2) Removal and disposal of the unsafe portacabin
3) Plough, Flatten and reseed the playing surface.
4) Clearance of overgrown vegetation around edge of site.
5) Storage facility cleared repainted and put back into use.
6) Improved security – gates
7) Seating area for parents/children
This will provide a base for Tarvin AFC with full time pitch availability and club equipment storage.
They are aiming to open the pitch for the 20/21 season (if not before) dependent on the grass growth and drainage suitability.
The allocation from The George Heath Foundation will help the club to become more self-sufficient (reducing the cost of grounds maintenance by allowing the volunteers to mow the pitches themselves), and will also provide some training and match-day facilities – goal posts and subs benches.
We look forward to being able to show you some updated photographs of the pitch renovation progress when the weather is being kinder and allowing work to continue!
